More housing is now available in West Baltimore.

Thursday city officials held a grand opening ceremony for Metro Heights at Mondawmin. The $15.9 million dollar development brings 70 new one, two, and three-bedroom apartments to the area.

The complex is right across from Mondawmin Mall at the corner of Reisterstown Road and Liberty Heights Avenue. Residents will have easy access to public transportation, shopping, dining and health services.

"Too often affordable housing becomes a code word for poorly conceived, poorly planned, poorly built, poorly managed, and in a word, cheap,” said Councilman Leon Pinkett III. “It’s clear that at Metro Heights we have a development that isn’t built based on the income of its residents, but was created with the aim that everyone deserves a safe, affordable, quality residence to call home."

Metro Heights at Mondawmin also features in-unit washers and dryers, a club room, a business center, and a fitness room.
