The Baltimore City Department of Public Works says that over 17,000 gallons of wastewater overflowed into the Gwynns Falls because of a damaged pipe.
Officials say the damaged sewer pipe is in the 2500 block of Edmondson Avenue in Baltimore. It was discovered that the pipe was broken during a routine stream sampling done by DPW crews on October 25.
Crews inspected the pipe and found multiple leaking points and a collapse in a pipe segment. The discharge coming from the broken part of the pipe was fixed on Tuesday.
DPW also says the leak stayed underground and did not spill onto any streets.
