Former mayoral candidate and Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson has been named to the transition team of incoming Baltimore City Schools CEO Dr. Sonja B. Santelises.

Mckesson will serve as the interim chief human capital officer.

He previously served in Baltimore City Public Schools as a human capital specialist from August 2011 to February 2012, then as special assistant to the chief human capital officer until December 2013.

He held a similar position in Minneapolis Public Schools.

Mckesson ran in the Democratic primary for Baltimore mayor and lost, despite collecting several high-profile endorsements.
