Baltimore's newest officers hit the street Thursday.

Mayor Catherine Pugh and Police Commissioner Kevin Davis congratulated the officers at a graduation ceremony Thursday night. The youngest officer this year is 22 years old and the oldest is 47.

"The tool you're going to need, no matter what you do is you communication skills," Davis said. "Can you speak to people from various walks of life? People who are experiencing a crisis? Families who are experiencing crisis? Neighborhoods in crisis? Can you interact with people on their very, very worst days of their lives?"

Davis also told the new officers they're not just crime firefighters, but community ambassadors.
