A routine patrol for one Baltimore Police officer led to an unexpected rescue.

Baltimore Police said Officer Ashley Acord, an officer with the department's Central District, was on patrol in the 1600 block of Division Street on March 20. Acord observed suspicious activity around a vacant house, and stopped to investigate.

Acord found a terrier mix dog inside of the vacant home tied to a door knob. The dog appeared to be abandoned, and officers were unable to find the dog’s owner.

The dog was taken to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter.

But after three days, the dog had not been claimed and Officer Acord started the paperwork to adopt the dog.
