Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake says she wants to make acting commissioner Kevin Davis the permanent head of Baltimore's police department.
Rawlings-Blake spokesman Kevin Harris says the mayor reached out to City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young on Monday to seek council approval for the decision. Harris says the mayor has been pleased with the energy that Davis has brought to the job.
Young says it's a good idea to have Davis become the permanent commissioner, but he thinks Davis' term should end with Rawlings-Blake's. The mayor announced on Friday that she would not seek re-election.
Forty-six-year-old Davis is making $172,850 as interim commissioner.
In a statement, Davis thanked Rawlings-Blake "for this opportunity to serve the community and the men and women of the Baltimore Police Department."
