BALTIMORE — Baltimore City's Fire Department and the University of Maryland are partnering to start a pilot program for mobile health care.

The program will help residents in West Baltimore. The goal is to reduce the need for patients to visit the emergency room by providing the health services at home.

“This is about saving lives,” said Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, who represents Maryland’s 7th Congressional District in Baltimore. “That's what's so wonderful about it, and it's practical. It makes sense. So often in our country we know the things that make sense but can't bring people together to do them.“

The pilot program will serve West Baltimore residents for two years. After the two year, period officials are hoping to expand the program to other parts of the city.
