Mosby drops out of mayoral race

The husband of the Maryland state's attorney who is prosecuting six police officers charged in Freddie Gray's death is dropping out of the race to be Baltimore's mayor.

City Councilman Nick Mosby told The Baltimore Sun Wednesday that he will instead support Sen. Catherine Pugh.

Mosby says the timing wasn't right for him to be elected mayor.

The councilman announced in October that he would run for mayor. He was among more than a dozen Democratic candidates seeking to succeed Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who chose not to seek re-election after riots rocked Baltimore following Gray's death a year ago.

Other candidates include former mayor Sheila Dixon, City Councilman Carl Stokes, and businessman David Warnock.

Mosby is married to State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby.

The primary election to determine mayoral candidates will take place April 26.
