Baltimore City Schools approved next year’s budget, cutting $30 million from schools, $10 million from administration and laying off around 300 employees.

The budget was approved unanimously Tuesday night.

School officials said the exact number of layoffs is still up in the air, but a final list is being drafted this week.

The school board unanimously approved an over $1.3 billion budget Tuesday night, following a long battle to secure extra funding from the city and the state. In the end, the budget was about $70 million short, down from the original deficit projection of about $130 million.

Layoff letters will be sent out to affected employees by June 1, officials said.
