Baltimore City Register of Wills Belinda Conaway held a courthouse ceremony for her staff Monday to honor their efforts in combating cancer.

Their combined efforts raised more than $5,000 for ovarian and breast cancer research.

"I think we are the heart of the courthouse because we do so much in giving back and trying to make sure that we realize there is a need in Baltimore City and if everyone does something then we can make a great change," Conaway said.

Conaway has an ovarian cancer survivor on her staff.

Court clerk Lavinia Alexander, who lost her battle to cancer, was also honored at the ceremony.
