Baby pigs make their debut at Maryland Zoo

Posted

If you need a dose of adorable in your life, look no further than the Maryland Zoo!

The zoo welcomed two new pigs to their animal family, Orville, and Wilbur. Both little piglets are Kunekune Pigs, which are native to New Zealand, and were born on February 23.

Kunekune pigs are known to be short-snouted, short-legged, hairy pigs and are named for their build. Kunekune actually means fat and round in the Maori language.

While they are small and cute now, these babies can grow up to 200 to 300 pounds.

“Since they are a grazing pig breed, their outdoor yard includes both grass and a mud wallow,” said Ryan Hejduk, Farmyard area manager.

You can see Orville and Wilbur along with sheep, goats, cows and other animals in the farmyard area of the zoo.
