BALTIMORE — An award winning actor and Baltimore native is being recognized for his accomplishments.

On Monday, Mayor Jack Young presented André De Shields a key to the city. He also gave him a mayoral salute.

"Thank you for embracing me, thank you for lifting me for all these many years," said De Shields. "Thank you for carrying me all these many years. Thank you for not letting those that want to detract from us bring us down. We still stand tall."

De Shields won the Tony award for best featured actor in a musical for his role as Hermes in the hit Broadway show Hadestown.

He and the rest of the cast performed some of the songs from the musical last week on Good Morning America.
