BALTIMORE (WMAR) — Amazon is bringing some holiday cheer to Baltimore's homeless.

On Tuesday, Amazon employees based out of Baltimore packed and delivered over 2,000 "Boxes of Smiles" and a surprise $50,000 donation to The Journey Home initiative in front of City Hall.

The Journey Home was selected to receive the gifts by local Amazon employees who were encouraged to nominate an area non-profit that works to prevent city homelessness.

Inside the boxes are holiday gifts including toys, electronics, books, and personal care items.

The Journey Home is one of five nonprofit organizations across the United States to receive such a donation from Amazon, which has committed over $1 million towards homeless initiatives.
