50 gallons of lube oil discharged into Baltimore Harbor

The Maryland Coast Guard is investigating a lube oil spill that was discharged into the Baltimore Harbor.

According to the Coast Guard, the incident was reported Friday when a rainbow sheen in the harbor was noticed near Pier 6. They say that an estimated 50 gallons of lube oil was discharged into the water through the Johns Fall outfall.

The Oil Spill Liability Trust funded materials that have been deployed to recover the product.

The source of the oil has not been identified.
