BALTIMORE — The man accused of stabbing his 39-year-old wife to death in Southeast Baltimore, has been taken into custody.

According to Baltimore Police, Amit Kumar, 39, turned himself into authorities in DeWitt, New York on Sunday.

He will be extradited back to Baltimore where he will face charges of first degree murder.

It was last Friday before 7 p.m. when officers responded to the 6700 block of Holabird Avenue and found Kumar's wife, Ankita Verma, suffering from stab wounds.

Officers were unable to locate him at the time and thought he may have fled to New York City or the Syracuse Area. There were reports however that he had been seen in Washington D.C.

Kumar was also wanted on an outstanding theft warrant, unrelated to the murder.
