Here's a list of 20 Free Fall Baltimore events that are completely free and open to the public.
1. The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is offering free admission Thursday, Oct. 1. The Zoo is open 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Free admission is offered at the Main Gate, no ticket required.
2. Baltimore Museum of Art - Visit the the museum throughout the month of October to see the exhibits of Baker Artist award winners. Exhibits are from the 2014 and 2015 winners. The photo above is the 2015 Mary Sawyers Baker Prize Winners – Paul Rucker, Wendel Patrick and Eric Dyer.
3. The H.P. Rawlings Conservatory - "Festival of Fabrics: Color from the Earth" opening night is Friday, Oct. 2 from 5-7 p.m. Artists Claire Frederick and Ashton Page of Wax and Wane Fiber worked with curator Gloria Azucena to create the exhibition and conduct a free workshop series that ran from July to September. The exhibition will display tapestries and dyed fabrics made during a series of free public workshops. The exhibition will be available October 3-11.
4. The Arena Players, Inc presents a performance of Flowers for Phyllis. Directed by Randolph Smith, the show is a musical tribute to the words and music of singer-songwriter Phyllis Hyman. The free show is Friday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m.
5. Center Stage - annual family open house Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event features backstage tours, presentations, a costume photo booth, workshops and demonstrations through the theater. Don’t miss an opportunity to go backstage at Center Stage before the building closes for renovations.
6. The Mushroom City Art Festival - focusing on the foraging, identification and cultivation of mushrooms as well as mushroom-inspired art. This year the Mushroom City Art Festival has collaborated with Nature Art in the Park to host the event at Leakin Park October 3 from 12-10 p.m.
7. Baltimore Rhythm Festival brings together a variety of music, dance and spoken word. Join the community Saturday Oct. 3 at 12 p.m. at Lovely Lane Church for a celebration of rhythm-based art. The photo is from one of the Baltimore Rhythm Festival performances.
8. Baltimore Philharmonia Orchestra - family friendly concert October 4 at Saint Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church. The orchestra will perform “Tubby the Tuba” as well as other favorites.
9. Baltimore Museum of Art - Free Family Sundays weekly in October from 2-5 p.m. Starting October 4, bring the family for drop-in-art-making workshops inspired by the BMA’s African art collection.
10. Commemorate the 166th Anniversary of Edgar Allan Poe’s death with a Nomadic Tour of Poe-appropriate sites across downtown Baltimore. The tour begins at 12 p.m. October 7 outside 100 N Broadway, the building where Poe died.
11. Black Cherry Puppet Theater - presenting free shows on three Sundays in October. A new show will be performed each week starting October 11.
12. The Ivy Bookshop - Celebrate the 5th Anniversary of CityLit Press Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. Join several CityLit Press authors for a special event.
13. Join Baltimore Improv Group and The Collective for The Movement Friday, Oct. 16 from 8-10 p.m. at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The two groups will perform unscripted comedy and dance based on audience suggestions.
14. Baltimore Choral Arts is looking for individuals to join in a free Community Sing of gospels and spirituals. The community sing will take place at the Second English Lutheran Church Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
15. Baltimore Gamer Symphony Orchestra - performing a special Halloween-themed concert Sunday Oct. 18. The concert features music from the most popular video games. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. at the Church of the Messiah.
16. Make Studio - free workshops Saturday, Oct. 24 from 12-5:30 p.m. Participants will work alongside Make Studio artists to create unique artwork and leave their own finished piece of art.
17. Arts Every Day - family friendly Back to School with William Shakespeare. Meet at Highlandtown Elementary/Middle School October 24 at 12 p.m. for Shakespearean acting games, printmaking, hands-on alchemy project and performances by Chesapeake Shakespeare Company actors.
18. Doors Open Baltimore - participants have the opportunity to explore buildings across the city On Sunday, Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Several buildings connected with the industrialization of Baltimore will be open to the public throughout the day.
19. 8th Annual Oktoberfest Celebration and Block Party - join the community for a fun day. Enjoy music, raffles, crafts, food and an outdoor beer garden. Oktoberfest begins October 25 at 12 p.m. on the 3200 block of Dillon Street in Canton.
20. Charm City Fringe - free Halloween costume workshop and Halloween party. On Thursday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. join Charm City Fringe Festival and Church & Company for tips and tricks to design your own costume and makeup. Then show off your costume designs with a Halloween Party at Church & Company on October 30 at 9 p.m.
