Police say a woman was killed after a man lost control of his car, hitting her head-on.

The crash happened on Saturday around 1:15 a.m. on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard at Lower Magothy Beach Road in Severna Park.

A GMC pickup was driving southbound when the driver, Kyle Heck, lost control and crossed the centerline, hitting a Volkswagen driven by Caron Tasker head-on. Heck then continued to drive and crashed into a fence on the opposite side of the intersection and flipped over.

Tasker was trapped in her Volkswagen and had to be extricated by the Fire Department. She was then taken to a trauma center where she was later pronounced dead.

Heck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators say the preliminary cause of this crash is the failure to remain right of center, but excessive speed and alcohol use may also be contributing factors.

The Traffic Safety Section is handling the investigation and any charges will be after review by the States Attorney.
