Spirit Airline flight turns back to BWI after reported odor on-board

LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, Md. — BWI-Thurgood Marshall Airport has confirmed a precautionary alert for a potential mechanical issue involving a Spirit Airlines flight Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson with Spirit Airlines told WMAR-2 News, Flight 301, with scheduled service from Baltimore to Fort Lauderdale, turned back shortly after takeoff due to an unknown odor present onboard. The flight landed safely with no guests experiencing any issues.

The airlines is working to re-accommodate all passengers for another flight.

Spirit said the aircraft in question has been taken out of service until its maintenance team can inspect it.
