It was a special Thursday at Quarterfield Elementary School when a mom wanted to do something special for her kids.

MGS Kathleen with the U.S. Air Force was away from her children for a year and was stationed in South Korea. When she knew she was coming home, Kathleen kept the date a secret from her three boys so she could plan a surprise.

Kathleen called the school and officials planned something more than what she had in mind. An assembly that would circle the entire surprise.

"I'm so excited," a smiling Kathleen said before the reveal. "It's been a long time to be away from them, so to be able to do this and surprise them. I hope they are surprised."

When the time came, Kathleen walked out to a sea of children, but the ones who knew who she was ran up and hugged her tightly.

"It's hard being away, especially as a mom," Kathleen said. "It's great doing what we do every day, but this is my real life and I'm glad to be home with them.
