A fireboat from the Annapolis Fire Department was already on the water in the area and located the sailboat, and began a search. Marine units from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, the Maryland Natural Resources Police and the United States Coast Guard, as well as two helicopters from the Maryland State Police, assisted.

The second person on the sailboat was uninjured, and brought safely to shore.
