Police arrest second suspect involved in Annapolis homicide

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Annapolis Police have arrest the second suspect that was involved in a March 15 homicide.

The department said they received a call about shots being fired in the unit block of Bens Drive at Bay Ridge Gardens.

When officers arrived to the scene, they found 49-year-old Leslie Eugene Saunders between two apartment buildings, with gunshot wounds. According to police, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sometime later, on April 3, they ended up arresting 21-year-old Michael Gibson, without incident, in the unit block of Old Mill Bottom Road.

Detectives identified Gibson as a suspect in Saunders' murder and was charged with first and second degree murder and seven other criminal charges related to the crime.

On Thursday, at around 1:30pm, members of the Annapolis Police Department also arrested Thomas Smith in connection with Saunders' murder. Smith was charged with conspiracy to commit murder - first degree and accessory after the fact.

He is currently being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond.
