GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WMAR) — An investigation is underway after a pedestrian was fatally struck Thursday morning in Glen Burnie.

It happened around 6 a.m. in the eastbound lane of 8th Avenue Northwest near Grayburn Drive.

Police say the pedestrian was trying to cross the road when they were struck.

The driver remained on scene, and didn't appear to be impaired by drugs or alcohol according to police.

Right now investigators think the crash was caused by pedestrian error, but haven't ruled out speeding as a contributing factor.

Police are awaiting toxicology results on the pedestrian to determine if there was any impairment.

The names of the driver and pedestrian have not been released.
