Police are investigating a deadly crash in Riveria Beach after they say a man hit by a car while walking in the middle of the road.
Just after 2 a.m. on Saturday, police were called to a pedestrian accident on Fort Smallwood Raod at Homeland Road.
They say an unidentified man, dressed in dark clothing, was walking against traffic in the northbound lane of Fort Smallwood Road when he was hit by a car. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, 18-year-old Devon Stoddard Menza, was not injured, and officials are still investigating the crash. They say the preliminary cause of the crash was from the man failing to yield to road traffic and the fact that he did not use the available shoulder.
There was no indication of excessive speed or alcohol use by Menza. The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and the case will be reviewed by the States Attorney
