One man died and a firefighter was injured after a two-alarm fire broke out in a two-story Brooklyn Park home early Monday morning.
At around 4:35 a.m., firefighters responded to reports of a fire called in by a nearby resident. Crews located the fire in the 5200 block of Brookwood Road near Christian Road in Anne Arundel County. Fire crews reported smoke and fire coming from the second floor.
Firefighters found one man on the second floor of the home and carried him outside where he was determined to be in cardiac arrest. Paramedics weren't able to resuscitate him and he was pronounced dead on the scene. The victim was not identified, but firefighters believe the man was in his 40's.
During search efforts to search the home, a male firefighter fell through the second floor to the first floor, officials said. He was taken to Shock Trauma with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. He was released from the hospital around 11 a.m. Monday.
Officials said the deceased man was the only occupant at home during the fire. Smoke spread to three other rowhomes on the 5200 block of Brookwood Road, causing smoke damage. None of those residents were displaced.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
