Lothian crash sends two teens to the hospital

Posted

A 17-year-old is critically injured after a two vehicle crash in Lothian Friday evening.

Anne Arundel County Police say a Ford work truck was driving southbound when a GMC pickup going eastbound on Jewell Road attempted to cross Solomons Island Road.

Subsequently, the GMC was struck on the driver’s side and pushed off the roadway.

Both the driver, a 17-year-old, and the passenger, a 14-year-old, were flown to Johns Hopkins Children Center.

Police say the driver sustained critical injuries.

The Driver of the Ford work truck, 51-year-old Walter Layman III, was not injured.

Officials say the suspected cause of the crash appears to be failure to yield the right of way. They do not suspect speed or alcohol as a factor in the incident.
