Officials at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport made two separate arrests May 5th, after travelers were caught with guns at a TSA checkpoint.
In one case a man was found with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun in his carry-on.
Later in the day a woman was carrying a hot pink .380 caliber semi-automatic loaded handgun in her carry-on bag.
The weapons were detected through the x-ray conveyor belt at the TSA checkpoint. The weapons were confiscated and their owners charged.
Anyone who brings a firearm to the checkpoint faces criminal charges and civil penalties of up to $12,000.
TSA has details on how to properly travel with a firearm posted on its web site here: http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/firearms-and-ammunition.
