Firefighter hurt battling yacht club blaze

A firefighter was hurt battling a 3-alarm blaze at the Annapolis Yacht Club authorities said.

Annapolis Fire Department Captain John Bowes said around 2:15 dispatchers began receiving multiple calls reporting smoke billowing out of the windows of the Yacht Club located at 2 Compromise Street.

Units arriving on the scene encountered heavy flame and the fire quickly escalated to 3 alarms.

Ninety fire fighters and 34 pieces of equipment are working to extinguish blaze that was still active at 4:30 p.m. 

Annapolis fire fighters were assisted by the Anne Arundel  County Fire Department and the Naval Academy Fire Department.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. No civilians were hurt.

Captain Bowes said the cause of the fire has not been determined.

Annapolis police have put out that the Parade of Lights that is scheduled for tonight has been canceled due to the fire. It has not been said if the parade will be rescheduled.
