A family of five was all sent to the hospital from an early morning fire in Brooklyn Park. Anne Arundel County Fire officials say they were called to the single family home in the 200 block of Ball Park Drive early Sunday at 4:17 a.m.

The eight residents were able to evacuate themselves before the fire department arrived. The family lives upstairs while three tenants lived in the downstairs part of the home, according to a public information officer.

A three year old girl with severe injuries, possibly life-threatening, was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital Pediatrics.

Four other members of the family were taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview for smoke inhalation, including a 25-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman, a 2-year-old child and a 7-month-old child.

Fifty firefighters fought the fire in just under an hour. One was taken for evaluation for a minor injury.

The damage to the home is estimated at $300,000; the cause remains under investigation.
