A man was seriously hurt when the SUV he was driving struck a tree in Anne Arundel County, police said Friday.

Anne Arundel County Police responded to the report of a single vehicle crash at about 7:20 a.m. on northbound Crain Highway, near Route 32.

Police said a Chevy Tahoe driven by 52-year-old Anthony Jerome Contee of Marlboro, Md., was heading north on Crain Highway when he veered onto the shoulder then struck a tree. Police are not sure what caused him to leave the roadway.

Contee was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma for his injuries and is currently listed in stable condition.
