HANOVER, Md. (WMAR) — Two Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Deputies saved a choking 2-year-old girl Saturday at Arundel Mills Mall.

Deputies Schwaab and Blucher were at the mall working secondary security, when they received a report of a disturbance at the Skechers store.

When they got to the store, a mother was screaming for help as her child appeared to be unconscious and not breathing.

Witnesses told the deputies they thought the child may have choked on something.

Deputy Schwaab then picked up the child, put her chest down, and began applying the infant Heimlich maneuver.

Shortly after, the child spit up and gasped for breath. She eventually started to regain her normal color and breathe normally while reaching for her parents.

Medics were called to the scene and took the child to an area hospital for further evaluation.

The Sheriff's Office says both deputies have been with the agency for over 12 years, and have worked security at the mall for 8.
