A barricade situation in the 300 block of Old Stage Road in Glen Burnie has been resolved.

Anne Arundel County police responded to the address for a domestic assault at approximately 1:15 p.m. Tuesday. A woman said that she had been assaulted by a man inside her apartment. She identified the suspect as 38-year-old Mario Alexander Taylor.

Officers attempted to make contact with Taylor, but he refused to answer the door and said he had a gun. Officers could see through a window that he was armed with a rifle. Taylor then barricaded the front and refused commands to come outside.

Police set up a perimeter and negotiators attempted contact with Taylor. Taylor made several threats toward officers and also made suicidal comments. After several hours of negotiations at approximately 6:18 p.m., officers heard what they believed was a single gunshot.

At 6:21 p.m. officers forced entry into the apartment and found Taylor suffering a single gunshot wound the head. He was transported to Shock Trauma. Taylor was alert and conscious.

Taylor is listed in critical, but stable condition.

The barricade caused Old Stage Road to be closed to traffic between Quarterfield Road and William Street for several hours Tuesday.
