BROOKLYN PARK, Md. — A 63-year-old man was seriously injured in a fire at a Brooklyn Park townhouse, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded to the 200 block of Edgevale Road for the one-alarm fire at about 5:33 p.m. Friday. Neighbors called in the blaze which started in the house’s basement, firefighters said. With Baltimore City Fire Department assisting, 33 firefighters battled the blaze, extinguishing it in roughly 15 minutes.

The 63-year-old man was able to evacuate the building before firefighters arrived, but he was transported by paramedics to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious, but not life-threatening injuries related to smoke inhalation. Four adults and three children were displaced by the blaze.

Fire personnel are investigating the cause of the fire.
