JESSUP, Md (WMAR) — The State Fire Marshal intends to file arson charges against an inmate after a fire broke out at a corrections facility on Sunday.

The incident happened around 8:40 p.m. at the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women, located in the 7900 block of Brock Bridge Road in Jessup.

Anne Arundel County Fire officials say the fire was located in a single cell and later extinguished. Investigators later found a lighter in that same cell.

A Department of Corrections spokesman said three Corrections Officers were evaluated and released on scene for smoke exposure.

An additional patient was transported to a hospital for an unrelated seizure.

Officials say the damage isn't severe and will not require the relocation of any inmates or staff.

The inmates identity is being withheld pending formal charges.
