The Anne Arundel County Fire Department has cleared the scene of a two-alarm house fire that had shut down Ritchie Highway between Cedar Hill Lane and 695 for close to six hours.
It took 80 firefighters from Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County and the airport to get the fire under control.
A call was received just after 6 a.m. at a two-story home on the 6000 block of Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park.
"Motorists coming by called it in. The occupant was asleep in the dwelling at the time. We believe maybe somebody went up to the door to alert the occupant," Lt. Craig Oldershaw said.
One civilian has been evaluated by paramedics and declined transport to the hospital, according to officials. He was treated for a minor hand injury.
Fire investigators estimate there is $100,000 of damage to the home. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
"It's kind of heartbreaking to see that but the good thing is that everybody is safe and it wasn't any further damage or any further loss than there was," Clayton Gaither, a neighbor, told ABC2.
