REISTERSTOWN, Md. — A Wreath Laying Ceremony was held at Reisterstown Community Cemetery to honor soldiers who served during American wars.

At the end of the ceremony, attendees placed flowers on the graves of veterans, keeping a tradition that dates back to the Civil War. Memorial Day was formerly known as Decoration Day. Veterans and the community would honor fallen soldiers with parades and bring flowers to their graves.

Memorial Day was extended after World War I to honor Americans who died in all wars.
