Raising awareness of veteran suicide prevention, 22 pushups at a time

It has been called this summer's version of the Ice Bucket Challenge and has already taken social media by storm. 22 Pushups is getting people active while bringing attention to an important cause: veteran suicide prevention.

Every year, about 22 veterans will take their own lives in the United States. The challenge was put together by the 22 Kill group, which works to build community support for veterans and increase awareness for the mental health challenges veterans face every day.

22 Kill took to social media to get the nation involved. Here's how: challengers are to record themselves doing the pushups and then posted the video to social media with the hashtag #22pushups.

The goal is to get a total of 22 million pushups. On the 22 Kill's website, the number is at more than 8 million pushups.
