Maryland community reacts to Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral fire

(WMAR) — Local officials share their sentiments on the fire that engulfed the historic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

The fire spread through the building causing the spire of the cathedral to collapse.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan shared a statement on the shocking fire that damaged the landmark:

Our hearts are breaking watching this horrific scene. Notre Dame is one of the world's most iconic cathedrals. Our prayers are with the first responders and everyone involved.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore also released a statement on the cathedral fire:

Archbishop Lori and the people of the Archdiocese of Baltimore offer heart-felt prayers for the people of France as emergency personnel respond to a devastating fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris

The President on of the U.S. Bishops’ Conference issued a statement via Twitter:

The Archiocese of Baltimore announced that the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen will be open to those in the area who wish to offer their prayers for the people of France. The cathedral's 7:30 p.m. Chrism Mass will be celebrated in solidarity with the people of France. They say you can also catch the live stream of their service on the Archdiocese's Facebook page.
