Maya Rockeymore Cummings, the wife of Congressman Elijah Cummings, announces her run for Maryland Governor.
According to The Washington Post, Cummings did not have confidence that Governor Hogan will make the right decisions on health care for the state of Maryland.
Rockeymoore Cummings is 46. She earned a doctorate in political science from Purdue University. She has more than two decades of experience working in the public and private sectors, including as chief of staff to New York congressman Charles B. Rangel, at the National Urban League and at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.
She started Global Policy Solutions, a social change strategy firm, in 2005.
She is the 8th Democratic candidate to announce an intent to challenge Gov. Hogan. He is planning to run for a 2nd term.
The Maryland Primary Election is set for June 26, 2018.
