Sterling Jewelers has been hit with sexual assault allegations. The parent company of Kay Jewelers and Jared is battling allegations of fostering a culture of sexual harassment and discrimination.

Sterling Jewelers has been in arbitration with hundreds of former employees for nearly a decade, according to documents in the case that were made public on Sunday.

Around 69,000 current and former employees are involved. One of them alleges instances of women being solicited for sex in exchange for employment benefits.

The documents also describe cases of sexual assault and rape. The company is also accused of routinely paying men more than women.

A spokesman told the Washington Post that Sterling investigated the allegations and found them to be unsubstantiated.
