A Tennessee judge has ordered the suspect in a deadly Waffle House shooting be placed in a mental facility to treat his schizophrenia in hopes that he becomes fit to stand trial.
On Wednesday, Davidson County Criminal Court Judge Mark Fishburn said 29-year-old Travis Reinking poses a substantial threat of harm to the public, if not himself.
Dozens of victims, friends and family members filled the courtroom and glimpsed Reinking in person, including James Shaw Jr., who authorities say wrestled an assault-style rifle away from Reinking.
Authorities say Reinking used an AR-15-style rifle to fire upon the Nashville restaurant April 22, killing four people.
Forensic psychologist Rena Isen testified that Reinking is currently unfit for trial. She said Reinking isn't complying with his medication, which could potentially treat his illness.
