A Maryland police officer won't face charges in the shooting of a shoplifting suspect.

Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger's office said in a statement Wednesday that a grand jury declined to indict the officer.

Police have said officers chased an SUV carrying a shoplifting suspect July 3. Media outlets that reviewed body camera footage report the officer yelled "Stop the car! Stop the car!" before firing 11 times as the SUV fled. Both occupants were later arrested. The wounded suspect was expected to survive. The driver wasn't injured.

Police identified the shooter only as officer 1st Class McCain. The department doesn't release officers' first names or the races of officers or people shot.

McCain's police powers were suspended with pay. It's the third shooting he's been involved in.
