Planned Parenthood announces expanded abortion access in Ky.

Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky announced Friday that its Louisville center will provide abortion services after applying for and receiving a provisional license from the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

This will be the second abortion provider in the Commonwealth.

The CEO of PPINK, Chris Charbonneau, issued a statement to the media, “Kentucky has gone from one abortion provider to two, which is a significant win for reproductive health care in the state. Abortion access in Kentucky and across the country is at great risk, so while this is a step forward, the fight is far from over. We are glad to see the Cabinet for Health and Family Services follow the law and grant PPINK a provisional license because we met the requirements. All people in Kentucky deserve to make their own pregnancy decisions and to have access to safe and legal abortion."

Abortion was a controversial subject in the 2019 gubernatorial election with former Gov. Bevin accusing current Gov. Andy Beshear of making a "deal with the devil" to "slaughter unborn children for political contribution." Bevin held a press conference to announce his former opponent's ties to the owner of the EMW Women's Surgical Center, which at the time, was Kentucky's only operating abortion clinic.

Patients at Louisville's Planned Parenthood Clinic will have access to abortion beginning in March 2020.
