A police officer was killed after a shootout with a suspect in Missouri Thursday morning.

Police believe Officer Blake Snyder faced the suspect after responding to a disturbance call near a home in St. Louis.

The 18-year-old suspect, who was in the passenger seat of a car, immediately shot the officer.

Jon Belmar, the St. Louis County Police Chief, described the scene, "From the time the suspect had made it from the house to the car, that's where Officer Snyder encountered him. Officer Snyder, we believe at this point in the investigation, gave the suspect some commands because he couldn't see his hands. The suspect produced a pistol and he shot Officer Snyder, point blank," said Jon Belmar, St. Louis County police chief.

Officer Snyder leaves behind his wife and a young son.

The suspect is being treated for gunshot wounds and will face charges.
