A man has been accused of stealing 36 batteries from school buses in a Rhode Island yard, delaying the start of school.

East Providence police say Rehoboth, Massachusetts, resident Edmund Pittsley turned himself in Thursday morning.

Pittsley was arraigned in Providence District Court on charges of felony larceny over $1,500. It's unclear if he entered a plea or has a lawyer.

Police say Pittsley sold the batteries for about $600 to Berger & Company Recycling in Pawtucket, where they were recovered. Officials say they're seeking another suspect.

The theft was reported when a dozen buses wouldn't start Wednesday, forcing school officials to delay the school day's start by two hours. Other buses were brought in to take the children to school.
