A confederate monument is coming down in New Orleans.

The removal of the Jefferson Davis monument was met with protests as crews worked to take it down. Those workers were wearing bullet proof vests.

The monument sits near a school where classes are in session, but parents are encouraged to use alternate routes to get around the work site.

Jefferson Davis was the president of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War.
