ROCKVILLE, Md. — A pedestrian was struck and killed early Friday morning, according to Maryland State Police.

At a little before 5:30 a.m., Troopers from the Rockville Barrack arrived to northbound I-270, north of Shady Grove Road, for a reported single-vehicle collision with one fatality.

According to State Police, 33-year-old Jerasimos Ray Blanton was struck by a Freightliner flatbed truck in the main lanes of I-270.

Officials say that there was a disabled SUV in the transition lanes, between the main and local lanes of 270, which Troopers believe might have belonged to Blanton.

Investigators believe Blanton was trying to change a tire on his SUV and at some point, he attempted to the northbound lanes of I-270 when he was struck by the Freightliner truck.

This is an ongoing investigation.
