With the record-setting 2017 hurricane season still fresh in most American's minds, this year the state of Maryland is rolling out a new system to help keep people safe.

The Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has launched the "Know Your Zone" hurricane preparedness campaign. It is a new hurricane and severe weather evacuation system as a result of a hurricane evacuation study. The study identified three large areas in Maryland, communities at or near the Atlantic Ocean, the Coastal Bays, and the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries that are subject to tidal flooding. Which covers 16 Maryland counties along with Annapolis, Baltimore City, and Ocean City.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the new interactive Know Your Zone web page for more information.
