A man was saved from the edge of a waterfall after being swept away by strong waters in California.

The man tried to swim across the Yuba River when he got caught in the undertow and was pulled into the rapids. After a mile of being carried by water, he was able to grab onto a large rock just feet away from a waterfall.

Hikers spotted him and called 911.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter rescued the man.
