Woman charged with intentionally setting mattress on fire in an occupied Havre De Grace home

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. — A woman has been charged after Deputy State Fire Marshals determined she was responsible for intentionally setting a mattress on fire in the basement of an occupied Havre De Grace home.

The fire took place on July 5, 2020 just before 3 a.m. in the 100 block of Anderson Lane. All of the occupants were able to exit safely and there were no injuries reporter, but as firefighters entered the home they found a mattress on fire within the basement.

Havre De Grace Police were requested to the scene due to a domestic dispute between 23-year-old Alyssa O'Brien and the owner's son.

Investigators concluded the fire was intentionally set and determined O'Brien was responsible for setting the fire. The home sustained approximately $500.00 in damages.

After consultation with the Harford County State's Attorney's Office, charges were filed against O'Brien. She was charged with Arson 1st Degree, Arson 2nd Degree, Malicious Burning 2nd Degree, and four counts of Reckless Endangerment.
