HALETHORPE, Md. — Weis Markets associates volunteered time and donated $10,000 to the Maryland Food Bank this Giving Tuesday.

It's all part of the company's "National Day of Giving".

A $10,000 donation will help a lot of families, "A dollar buys 3 meals so the ability to double our donations will take that 3 meals for a dollar now becomes 6 meals," explains Carmen Del Guercio, President and CEO of the Maryland Foot Bank, "It's critical and huge for us. So it goes a long way toward helping people in need."

This is all part of Weis Markets "Fight Hunger" campaign which helps support the distribution of over 93,000 meals to neighbors in need.

Shoppers at Weis Markets also joined in on the giving. Each Weis location chose a local non-profit to donate to, "Every local Weis Store will ask customers at the register for 1,3,5 or 10 ten dollar donation. And on top of that every Weis Store will match their customers' donation up to $500," Rob Santoni with Weis Markets said.

Local organizations chosen at the various Weis locations range from food pantries, emergency shelter services and animal rescue organizations.
